SHEFFIELD’S Nick Matthew proved he is a man for all seasons, even if squash is played indoors after easing through to the second round of the British Open at the O2 in London.
Matthew, seeded three for the event, made light work of Max Lee of Hong Kong (11/8, 11/4, 11/6) in 45 minutes to set up a last 16 clash with England’s Tom Richards.
But Matthew, who is aiming to win the event for third time, told The Star that dealing with the conditions at the O2 has prepared him well.
He said: “When the match started the sunlight was coming through the roof making it difficult. Then we had rain and thunderstorms so I’ve probably played through all the weather that will be thrown at us.
“I’m pleased to get through so quickly. As third seed I’ll be playing in the afternoon so hopefully I can get the job done quickly without too much attention.”
