NICK Matthew’s dream of a third consecutive world title is over after he was beaten by Egyptian Ramy Ashour in the semi-finals of the World Championship yesterday.

The 32-year-old from Sheffield was hoping to emulate the great Jansher Khan and win three in row but was beaten 3-1 (11/9, 11/5, 9/11, 11/8) by the in-form 2008 champion Ashour, who will now become world No1 in January.

The man he replaces, Pontefract’s James Willstrop, lost in the other semi to Ashour’s countryman Mohamed El Shorbagy.
