TWO Sheffield United first-team players swapped footballs for racquets in support of a new initiative aimed at getting more youngsters into squash.
Harry Maguire and David McAllister rubbed shoulders with reigning squash world champion Nick Matthew, who is from Sheffield, at Hallamshire’s Tennis and Squash Club, as part of a partnership between the League One club and England Squash & Racketball.
Scarlett Smith, marketing and communications co-ordinator for England Squash & Racketball, said: “We are trying to get more kids active and into sport. We are really grateful to United for their backing.”
Hallamshire and Abbeydale Squash clubs are running free taster sessions this weekend and all youngsters who participate will get free tickets for United’s clash at home to Portsmouth on Monday.
