NICK Matthew plans on taking a well-earned break from the tour after retaining his North American Open title.

In the clash of the squash heavyweights, Sheffield world champion Matthew edged out Ramy Ashour 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6 in a thrilling final.

The 30-year-old, who pocketed $115,000 for winning the event, posted on his Twitter account: “Pretty happy right now, second NAO title, but credit to Ramy for the comeback. Now time for a rest!”

Although Matthew triumphed, Ashour leads 7-6 in the head-to-head record.

“We’ve developed quite a rivalry,” said Matthew, who was the top seed. “You have to expect the unexpected with Ramy. He probably had twice as many winners and losers as I did.”
