Young star Janowski in line for Parker tribute

WORLD Under-21 Champion Maciej Janowski is the next big name to confirm his appearance at Sheffield in March.

The Polish superstar, who will ride for King’s Lynn in the Elite League, will ride in Shane Parker’s farewell meeting at Owlerton on Sunday, March 18 (5pm).

The 20-year-old from Wroclaw, a protégé of World No. 1 Greg Hancock who is also included, ended Darcy Ward’s two-year reign as World Under-21 Champion last season when he took the gold medal at Gniezno in the final round.

Janowski, a former Polish Under-21 Champion, won two out of the four rounds – at Holsted in Denmark and Pardubice in the Czech Republic – en route to taking the title.

Janowski first raced in Britain for Swindon in 2010 when he made six Elite League appearances for the Robins. He remained with the Wiltshire club last year, making a further 22 appearances, but has switched allegiances to King’s Lynn ahead of the 2012 campaign. Said Parker: “I had the pleasure of watching ‘Magic’ secure his World Under-21 title in Gniezno and I was really impressed by his ability.

“He has a lot of potential and I’m sure he will go far in the sport. I’m delighted he’s agreed to ride in my meeting and having got the World Champion and now the World Under-21 Champion, we could hardly have made a better start to putting together a top quality field.”

Parker’s meeting is set to pull in a bumper crowd as the Australian bid farewell to the sport after a glittering career.

Tigers’ first meeting of the season will be against Belle Vue on Thursday, March 22.
