We were the pits last year admits Neil

NEIL Machin has vowed to make Sheffield a more professional team.

The Tigers owner, who is yet to appoint a new manager following the departure of Eric Boocock in November, says “all was not well” behind the scenes last year. Now he believes the new-look Tigers team, with only Emiliano Sanchez and Hugh Skidmore surviving from last season, will have fresh enthusiasm and team spirit.

He refuses to name anybody from last season’s team who he feels was at fault but says some incidents in the pits were out of order.

He said: “They are all raring to go; a lot of money has been spent on equipment and we’ll have a more professional approach on and off the track.

“Some things happened last year which undermined that. Some of the antics in the pits weren’t good enough and that’s a large part of the reason why Eric decided to step down, I think he’d had enough of it all. The critics have been a bit harsh about our team this season, we all feel we have what it takes to do well and I believe we will have strength in depth.”

Machin will sit down with co-promoter David Hoggart soon to discuss the appointment of a new team manager but has ruled out doing the job himself permanently.
