TIGERS will decide on their riding order for the new season after Thursday’s practice day at Owlerton.
Team bosses David Hoggart and Nigel Hinchliffe know they will have Simon Stead at No.1 and Jake Knight at reserve – but they must decide on the other five slots.
And Hoggart will be looking for a good display from Tigers when they face Elite League Birmingham in the opener on March 28 in an inter-league challenge.
He said: “We’re still undecided as to who will begin at reserve alongside Jake. It’s a tough call because we do need some strength at reserve and, conversely, we have to get it right in the main body of the team. We’re well aware the countdown is underway to the Birmingham opener and then what will be a tough League Cup campaign.”
After the Brummies come to town, Tigers are in cup action, having been grouped with Premier champions Scunthorpe and Leicester, kicking off their group stages at the Lions’ Stadium on March 30.
Scorpions start Sheffield’s home cup campaign on April 4. Hoggart said: “Birmingham are here for the opener and it will be the chance for our riders to blow away the cobwebs against tough opposition” he said. Any form of result in that one will be great but we need to be sharp by the time we start in the cup. It is a very difficult group but we always remain optimistic and if our riders start to click quickly then we can make an impression.”
