US Ricky is star guest for Tigers

AMERICAN ace Ricky Wells has been named as a guest rider for Sheffield's Owlerton clash with Redcar tomorrow.

Wells, currently on loan to Stoke from Elite League Coventry, will deputise for skipper Paul Cooper who is out for the rest of the season with neck and head injuries.

And the Californian racer will also step in for the away meeting with Newport on Sunday. Australian Alex Davies, son of former rider Steven, has been booked for the Bank Holiday trip to Scunthorpe.

Tigers boss Eric Boocock said: "It's never ideal booking guests for key riders in the team and Coops is certainly a key rider for us.

"Ricky was keen to do it for us, he's a rider with ability but he hasn't quite lived up to expectations this season and we just hope he can find top form when he rides for us.

"We need to pick up some points over the next few days if we're going to get into the top four and reach the play-offs, that remains our aim.

"Ricky Ashworth should be fine after hurting his groin at Newcastle and both Richard Hall and Hugh Skidmore will be back in the team which will be a nice boost for us.

"We won't be taking Redcar for granted; we have a job to do and we need the backing of our fans."
