Tigers in no rush to find new gaffer at Owlerton track

SHEFFIELD Tigers are in no rush to replace team manager Eric Boocock after the former England man quit Owlerton in November.

Club promoters David Hoggart and Neil Machin plan to hold talks next month with a view to making an appointment and they have revealed there has been plenty of interest.

They have already appointed Richard Hall as skipper and Hoggart says he may even consider the role himself on a short-term basis.

He said: “We may go down the route of keeping the role in-house, but I have a very busy schedule both in and out of the sport which would make it difficult for me to take on the role full-time.

“It’s something I would obviously like to do because it’s a very prestigious job and the response we’ve had from potential candidates underlines that fact. Perhaps we will start the season and see how it goes but I would need Neil to share some of the responsibility” said Hoggart.

“We really need a manager who is totally committed to the role and who can work with the riders in a positive manner to bring the best out of them.

“It’s an important job and one we cannot afford to take lightly. We have been impressed by what people have had to say at the club when they have contacted us and we will put the appointment higher up our list of priorities as the season approaches.

“We were sad to see Eric go and after that our priority was to sort the team line-up out which we have now done.”

Tigers open their season against Elite League Belle Vue at Owlerton on March 22 but the first meeting of the year is Shane Parker’s farewell which has already attracted a world class line-up on March 18.
