Tigers hand out captaincy honour to Richard

RICHARD Hall is the new skipper of Sheffield Tigers after rejoining the club this winter.

The Northallerton based rider spent last season out on loan at Leicester but quickly threw his hat into the ring for a switch back to Owlerton for 2012.

Hall himself is thrilled with the opportunity and has vowed to help gel the new-look Tigers team into a solid Premier League unit.

He said: “I’m so pleased to be back at Sheffield and feel very honoured and proud to have been offered the captaincy.

“It’s a big opportunity for me and I aim to take it with both hands, it’s probably one of the biggest moments of my career apart from winning the Elite League with Peterborough.

“I like the way the team has come together and I think we can surprise a few people. We’re all excited about proving some people wrong!”

Hall will be special guest at a meeting of supporters this Thursday at SAHA Social Club, Fulwood Road, Sheffield at 8pm when he will be answering questions about the new season.

Tigers co-promoter David Hoggart said: “Richard deserves this opportunity, both Neil Machin and myself talked it through and we both agreed he is the man for the job.

“He is the kind of rider who will always give you maximum effort and he will do that for us both on and off the track, so we’re delighted he has accepted this opportunity. We have had some fine captains down the years and it is an important job but we feel Richard is well capable of taking on the challenge.”

Hall’s first appearance as Tigers skipper will be against Belle Vue in the War of the Roses clash at Owlerton on March 22.
