Tigers duo in doubt after high-speed spills

King's Lynn 59 Sheffield Tigers 35

SHEFFIELD are left sweating on the fitness of Josh Auty and Ricky Ashworth following their 59-35 Premier League defeat at King's Lynn last night.

Both riders now look doubtful for tonight's match against Newcastle at Owlerton after high-speed crashes at Norfolk Arena.

With King's Lynn leading 12-6, Stars reserve Jan Graversen lifted on the first bend of heat 4 and although the other three riders initially avoided him, the Dane's out-of-control bike struck Auty as he entered the back-straight.

Then one race later Ashworth was also in the wars. Chris Schramm and Ashworth tangled as they entered the first bend of heat 5 and after being examined by paramedics the Tigers skipper's night was also over.

Both riders were taken to hospital for X-rays with Auty complaining of neck pain and Ashworth was experiencing some discomfort in his collarbone and shoulder.

From there the remaining four Sheffield riders did make King's Lynn work hard for their win and only trailed by eight-points after heat 8.

The Stars capitalised in heat 9 with a 5-1 as Sheffield were only able to track one rider, but successive 4-4s followed in heats 10 and 11 when Richard Hall and Joel Parsons raced to double-point second places.

Unfortunately that was a close as the battling Tigers were to get.

Parsons had to go it alone in heat 13 which allowed King's Lynn to ease to a 5-1 and further heat advantages in the final two races saw the Stars take all the league points from what was an eventful evening.

KING'S LYNN 59: Ward 15, Topinka 13+2, Schramm 10+1, Sanchez 8+1, Eklof 7+1, Graversen 4, Mallett 2.

SHEFFIELD 35: Hall 14, Parsons 13, Cooper 4+3, Mills 4+1, Ashworth 0, Auty 0, Hawkins (rider-replacement)
