Tigers deserve Riders honour, says Hoggart

SHEFFIELD co-boss David Hoggart insists the club have been handed the plum Premier League Riders’ Championship on merit.

Hoggart is the man in charge of the Speedway Great Britain events series and he has also landed a role on the sport’s management committee. Owlerton is now regarded as the home of the PLRC and it will take place on Sunday, September 23.

He said: “When it came to the PLRC it was a decision made by the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and my only input was to say that Sheffield would be happy to host it once again.

“The critics say it hands the Sheffield rider an unfair advantage but the commercial benefits to the sport in general fair outweigh that in my view and the view of the association. We have wonderful facilities here at Owlerton, fans travel from all over the country and the restaurant is always full on this occasion.

“I expect it to be no different and the bottom line is that the PLRC at Sheffield is one of the most successful major events for the sport.

“This has nothing to do with my position within the sport, I can only repeat that we have been handed this meeting on merit and we will once again do all we can to do it justice. We look forward to welcoming fans from throughout the country to support their representative.”

Meanwhile the club are preparing to reveal a small increase in admission prices for the new season after two years at the same level.
