Nico Covatti has won praise from Tigers bosses after an encouraging start to his time with the club.
Covatti, who was snapped up as a replacement for the injured Ty Proctor, was paid for a double-figure score at Redcar on Friday.
And the Argentinian-born Italian racer has plenty more to offer, according to Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole.
He said: “It was very encouraging to see the way Nico started for us last week and I’m sure he will play a big part for us in the coming weeks.
“He’s a smashing guy and he already looks to be a very accomplished performer for us at this level. He has a job to do for the team and hopefully he can keep it going for the rest of the season.
“As soon as we knew there was a question mark over Ty with injury we made contact with Nico and it didn’t take long to agree everything.
“Sheffield is a track which suits him too. He’s proved to be a good signing and there’s still more to come.”
Tigers lost 53-37 at Redcar on Friday and manager Joe Screen admitted it was another tough night.
Said Screen: “It’s been a nightmare for us, and it was another hard meeting.
“Josh (Bates) did well coming back from his injury but Simon (Stead) was still feeling ill which is why he didn’t go out in heat 15.
“Fingers crossed Leigh Lanham and Andre Compton can come back soon and we can get back to full strength, because we really want to try and finish the season strongly.”
