Sheffield skipper Simon Stead has called on his side to end a “nightmare season” with a flourish.
The Tigers’ campaign began with plenty of promise before injury problems derailed them. Leigh Lanham, Andre Compton, Ty Proctor and Josh Bates have all been sidelined, leaving the club lamenting their dreadful misfortune.
Stead admits it’s been a season to forget - but h is keen to see them end on a high by climbing the Premier League table over the coming weeks.
Stead said: “We’ve had some really rough luck with injuries, nothing has gone our way. Obviously we’ve been without Leigh and Andre the last few weeks, they are important for us.
“Josh seems to have been in and out all season which has been really frustrating. We brought Ty in thinking it was a good move but he’s struggled with injury as well. But we must finish the season strongly. We’ve got quite a few home matches left and want to make sure we win those and we have a trip to Scunthorpe as well which is a place we’ve won at this season. The potential is there for us to finish the season well.”
Tigers will draft in Kevin Wolbert and Liam Carr as guests for tonight’s home clash with Redcar.
Exciting German Wolbert played a crucial role as the Tigers claimed an excellent win over Workington in their last home meeting. New signing Nico Covatti will also make his home debut having seen last week’s clash with Scunthorpe washed out. Meanwhile, Lanham plans to be back on a bike practicing after the meeting with the view to returning from his back problem.
Sheffield will offer free admission for kids when accompanied by a paying adult at Owlerton.
