Tigers aim to take the sting out of their rivals

Have your say

Sheffield Tigers are desperate to make it third time lucky when they face Scunthorpe Scorpions at Owlerton stadium on Thursday (7.45pm).

Joe Screen’s side have already been beaten twice by their rivals on home shale this season - and the manager insists they are determined to put the record straight.

Screen is hoping the fact that his riders picked up a handy win against Glasgow last week will give them some confidence and momentum going into the meeting.

He said: “To lose twice at home to Scunthorpe is frustrating to say the least and it’s something we need to put right on Thursday evening.

“We were gutted with our big defeat at Edinburgh (they were defeated 28-63) )but I’ve tried not to be too hard on the lads because we all know what a tough place it is to go and get a result.

“They are the clear favourites to win everything.

“But we need to focus on Thursday and we need to get it right.

“There is plenty of banter between the two sets of riders and the respective management and we don’t want to be taking too much stick from Scunthorpe again!

“I will be looking for improved displays from the middle and lower order, Simon (Stead) is a true captain and his performances have shown that - he was sensational against Glasgow.

“We just need to get some momentum going and we need to stay unbeaten at home.

QWe need to make Owlerton a fortress, that’s the intention and a win on Thursday would be a nice way to build on last week’s win.”

Tigers youngster Josh Bates is set for more physio this week in a bid to be available for Thursday. His back problems caused him to pull out of his Elite League debut at Leicester on Saturday after three outings.”
