NATIONAL League title winner Ashley Birks has handed Tigers a boost by saying he wants to stay at the club next season.
Birks, 21, has played a big part in their strong Premier League campaign.
He also helped the club’s National League team to the title in a dramatic Grand Final last weekend.
Now the Sheffield-born charger wants to build upon his progress next year.
He said: “Obviously we’ll have to see what happens in the winter, but Sheffield fans are awesome, the management and sponsors have been great. I’ve had a great year and obviously I’m local, so I’m definitely looking to be back at Owlerton next year if I can.”
Despite having an excellent pedigree on motorcycles, Birks admits his performances this year have taken even him by surprise: “For my second season riding, my challenge was to just keep my Premier League spot all year.
“I just wanted to get my average and stay in the team, so to get asked to do guest bookings has been really good.”
Birks’ performances this season have not gone unnoticed and Tigers’ team manager Eric Boocock has been full of praise for his young reserve.
He said: “Ashley has been fantastic. He’s got an average close to five points and he’s actually ridden sometimes when he shouldn’t have. He’s had niggling injuries all year so to achieve what he has is marvellous. He’s a great kid and he’s had a really bright year. If he can carry on progressing like this year, he’s going to have an excellent future in the sport.”
