Tigers bosses are backing Jason Garrity for Premier League Riders’ Championship glory on home shale this Sunday.
Garrity is looking to follow in the footsteps of injured Tigers skipper Simon Stead by finishing top of the pile in one of the biggest individual events on the domestic calendar.
Top stars from every Premier League club will do battle over 20 races before the race-off and final.
And Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates says there is every chance Garrity can be crowned champion.
“Ever since he joined us Jason has been desperate to get into this meeting,” he said.
“He’s been a revelation for us this year and a pleasure to have around. He’s been like a breath of fresh air and a shining light in what has been a nightmare season with injuries.
“It’s taken a massive team effort but Jason is one of the main reasons why we have been able to edge into the play-offs.
“I don’t see why he can’t challenge for the title on Sunday. It’s obvious what this meeting means to him and I’m sure we can have another home winner, as we did last year with Simon Stead.
“Having said that, there are 15 other riders who will have a big say, and this meeting is so prestigious it is the highlight of the season for many.
“We’re expecting a big crowd. The Sheffield fans know to try and get down here early on Sunday with the gates opening at 3.30pm for the 5pm start.
“There are coaches coming from various parts of the country and I’m certain there will be a fantastic atmosphere. It’s always a special day at the PLRC and this will be no different. Hopefully Jason can do something special.”
Ipswich have been forced to make a change with their representative, Rohan Tungate stepping in for Danny King who is required in Poland.
