RESERVE Jake Knight is backing Sheffield to be in contention for a Premier League play-off spot this season.

Norfolk racer Knight is preparing for his first season with the club and will double-up with National League King’s Lynn.

And he says there’s a lot of promise in the Sheffield team which has the potential to develop into a good, solid team.

He said: “I think we can challenge for the play-offs - we’ve got a lot of promising riders.

“With Steady (Simon Stead) leading the team, he’ll definitely be wanting to prove a point about how good he is. He’ll be able to use all of his experience to help me, Damien (Koppe) and Facundo (Albin).

“I think we can all improve, and we are all desperate to improve, so I see no reason why we can’t be in contention for the play-offs at the end of the season.

“It’s going to be tough in the early stages but the management are great here and I know they will do all they can to help the younger riders.

“It’s a tough challenge for me but an exciting one at the same time and I really can’t wait to get going!”

Tigers will open their season at home to Birmingham on Thursday, March 28, in the Travel Plus Trophy. Former Owlerton favourite Ricky Ashworth appears for the Brummies as Chris Harris is unavailable.

Club bosses are expecting a bumper crowd with plenty of Birmingham fans set to make the journey for a rare trip to Owlerton, one of the fastest tracks in the country.
