A thrilling night at Owlerton ended all square as Sheffield just failed to get over the finish line against Plymouth last night.

Missing Argentinian star Facundo Albin the Tigers faced one of their toughest tests of the season against a powerful Plymouth side, and a draw was a fair reflection on the meeting.

Plymouth led for much of the first half, although the lead was slender, and they held that until heat 10, where Simon Stead teamed up with Haines for a potentially match-changing 5-1. A string of 3-3’s kept the home side two points ahead with two heats remaining and it looked as if the Tigers may pull off another excellent win.

A Devils 4-2 in heat 14 drew the contest level though and that meant that, as seems to be customary at Owlerton, the result would be determined by a last-heat decider.

Stead and Haines were the men charged with bringing home the win, they needed any heat advantage to do so, but Australian Cory Gathercole took on the role of spoiler for Plymouth as he won the heat to secure a draw for the Cornish side.

Sheffield now head to Hertfordshire tomorrow to take on Rye House (7pm).

* Tigers; Haines 12+2, Stead 11, Koppe 9, Wells 7+1, Hall 4, Knight 2, RR for Albin.

* Plymouth; Gathercole 12+1, Lemon 7+2, Bech 7+1, Lawson (G) 6, Schramm 5, Kurtz 4+2, Anderson 4+2.
