Talented Australian youngster Nick Morris will race for Tigers in tonight’s Premier League clash with Leicester a Beaumont Park.
Morris, who top scored for his Elite League side Swindon on Thursday, will replace injured skipper Simon Stead who is out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
And co-promoter David Hoggart believes Morris will prove to be a shrewd choice of guest rider.
He said: “He’s an excellent young rider, he has been riding as a heat-leader for Somerset and his scores for Swindon have been those of a heat-leader too - and that’s in the Elite League.
“We’ve been watching his scores and those of several riders knowing we would need to call on guests once Simon was hurt.
“Replacing Simon is impossible for what he brings all round, but we think Nick should do a good job for us.”
Stead isn’t the only absentee as Aussie reserve Damien Koppe remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, and James Sarjeant will once again step in at the bottom of the team.
Hoggart has also handed the captaincy to Adam Roynon, the newest member of the team, in Stead’s absence and he believes he will thrive in the role.
“Adam will be an excellent captain, we have no doubt about that,” he said. “He’s a very good team man and his attitude is fantastic, and he is of course a former Leicester rider. I’m sure he’ll want to lead the side to a positive result.”
Tigers are in talks with Andre Compton about a potential return to the club with a conclusion expected by Monday.
