David Bellego, one of the stars of the latest Premier League TV broadcast, will be in Sheffield colours for tonight’s clash with Edinburgh at Owlerton (7.30).
Bellego was in match winning form for Berwick on Tuesday in their hard fought win – ironically over the Monarchs.
The French racer will deputise for Leigh Lanham, who is still not ready to return to the saddle after back injuries sustained last month.
Andre Compton is still another week away from fitness and the rider replacement facility will be in operation for him – local lad James Sarjeant replaces Josh Bates at reserve.
Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole said: “We are hoping both Leigh and Andre will be back soon, but this meeting and the weekend has come just a bit too soon for them.
“The most important thing is that they look after themselves and get fully fit before coming back and racing. We want them totally sure they are fit and ready to race.
“Josh is hoping to be back next week after further medical checks, but it just seems tonight’s meeting is that little bit too soon for the boys.”
Italian World Cup star Nico Covatti makes his Tigers debut tonight after joining the club as a replacement for Ty Proctor at the weekend.
Meanwhile Proctor, Bates and Compton will be available at the entrance to the stadium with Bates’ bike for photographs next to the programme stand. Free photographs can be collected next week.
Said Mole: “It was a fantastic atmosphere last week, it was very noisy and the fans were very supportive. I hope they bring back their air horns and flags for this meeting, we really appreciate their support.”
“With all our team injury problems, the support of the crowd has been a boost in the early stages of our management.”
