Richard Hall is set to hand Tigers a major boost by returning from injury tomorrow – but Simon Stead is doubtful.
Hall, who suffered a dislocated shoulder a month ago, admitted he came back too soon in the last home meeting a fortnight ago.
But he appears to be winning his fitness race and is in line to ride for Sheffield in their Premier League meeting with Leicester at Owlerton tomorrow night.
Boss David Hoggart said: “It looks like good and bad news at this stage. Simon remains doubtful because he had a bad reaction to his hand injury in Poland on Sunday but Rich is making good progress.
“I’ve talked to them both and it will be a late decision with Simon but he is doubtful and we have put a guest on standby.
“I have also taken the decision to put Richard in the Premier League Pairs at Somerset on Friday alongside Ricky Wells.
This gives him time to prepare for a big meeting rather than uncertainty over whether he is in our out.
“It’s very frustrating but the most important thing is we want Simon to be fully fit.” and we certainly don’t want him to jeapordise the rest of the season.
“We have been struggling over the last month, that’s obvious to everyone, but when we get our full strength team back we will be competitive again.
“In the meantime we will book a guest on standby for tomorrow against Leicester. We know what a strong side they are and what a tough meeting this is going to be, we are going to need to dig deep for this one.”
Hoggart says a win against the Lions would be the perfect boost for his side after the disappointment of their Knockout Cup exit at the hands of Rye House.
“They will come here with a determined side feeling they can beat us,” said Hoggart.
“But our riders know we demand more from them and this is their opportunity to get us back on the right track to give us a boost.”
