Skidmore can bounce back says Machin
TIGERS chief Neil Machin is backing Australian rookie Hugh Skidmore to bounce back from his weekend disappointment in tonight's Owlerton clash with Newport (7.45).
Skidmore failed to score in the win at Glasgow on Sunday and also suffered three last places in last week's win over Berwick.
Machin insists Skidmore was due a bad run after excelling himself in the early stages of his UK career since replacing broken wrist victim Ritchie Hawkins.
"When we signed Hugh we surprised a few people and I feel he has done a great job so far," said Machin."He's got ability and potential and our fans have taken to him very quickly, they can see what he's all about with his skill and determination.
"He's had two bad meetings and that was always likely to happen. I think the lad has performed above expectations up until now and we're delighted with the form he has shown. He's one for the future and we will continue to work with him. I'm sure he will score some points against Newport."
Machin has targeted Paul Fry and Jordan Frampton as the dangermen for the visitors. Both have Elite League experience this season with Poole and Coventry respectively.
"I expect Fry and Frampton to top the Newport scorecharts, both will relish riding here," he said. "Fry has a good record around here down the years and he never gives up.
"I feel Newport could be a tougher test than many people will be expecting. Our aim is to send them back to South Wales empty handed."
Great Britain's World Cup race-off in Poland against Sweden, Denmark and Australia will be shown on TV screens throughout the stadium.
And there is a full second half with a team of Scandinavian youngsters doing battle over eight races.
There will also be a minute's silence in memory of Kenny Smith, the Scunthorpe manager who sadly passed away on Monday.
SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Joel Parsons, Richard Hall, Josh Auty, Paul Cooper, Chris Mills.
