The result extended the Owlerton side’s unbeaten run to five meetings on a close, entertaining night of action.

Neither side could break away and build an advantage in the opening half of the meeting as both teams put up a resilient fight.

The Tigers’ night got off to a far from ideal start as they conceded an opening heat 5-1 while skipper Simon Stead’s bike packed up when in third place also.

However the Tigers reserve duo fought back instantly with a heat maximum of their own courtesy of Richard Hall and Nathan Greaves who made a flying getaway from the tapes.

Josh Bates made the gate in the third before drifting out too wide on all four bends of the opening lap allowing the opposition through. Kyle Howarth split the Witches duo of Lewis Kerr and Morten Risager as the Witches re-took the lead.

Jason Garrity and Greaves hit the front in heat four before former Tiger Nico Covatti dived underneath the latter to salvage a 4-2 for the visitors as the scores drew level once again.

The Witches restored their two point lead as skipper Danny King made it two out of two in heat five before a 4-2 from Berge and Stead tied the scores once more at 18 points apiece.

Kerr took the chequered flag in a first share of the spoils in the seventh before the Tigers edged in front for the first time with a 4-2 from Berge and Greaves in heat 8.

Covatti got the better of Bates and Howarth in the ninth before a the Tigers struck a crucial maximum in heat 10. Berge made a lightning start while Stead dealt with the Witches duo on the opening two bends to enable the Tigers to stroll to a comfortable, yet vital, 5-1.

Howarth and Greaves registered a 4-2 in heat 12 while Stead picked up his first race win of the evening in heat 13 as he ended King’s unbeaten run for the visitors.

The Tigers sealed the points with a 3-3 in the penultimate race before a final 5-1 to Ipswich saw the visitors leave with a consolation point.
