Garrity rode like he had never been away despite a month out with an arm injury. His 15pt maximum ensured Tigers salvaged a draw in a fierce encounter as he prevailed in a last-heat decider after team-mate Simon Stead had been excluded.

Garrity was jubilant after his tussle with British Champion Danny King, admitting Tigers were relieved to emerge with a point. “It was great to come back and have a good night, it doesn’t always happen like that” Garrity said. “The start of this year I was struggling with my engines but I seem to have them setup well now and I’m going well. It was a tight race in heat 15, Danny was on the gas and he pushed me all the way but I knew what I had to do.

“A few times I had to block him, but when you have two fast riders around this sort of track you sometimes have to put your bike in the way. It was a good race to end on.

“We should have won really, but a few things didn’t go our way and I was just happy to get us a point in the end. It could have easily gone against us when Steady was excluded.”
