Sheffield’s joint manager Eric Boocock has challenged his reserve duo to put in a match winning performance at home to Scunthorpe on Thursday.
Arthur Sissis and Nathan Greaves have both come under fire after a run of inconsistent scores from the pairing. While Tigers will be looking to build on impressive home victories over Somerset and Edinburgh, Boocock is hoping his reserves will provide more of a contribution at Owlerton against the Scorpions.
Said Boocock: “It’s well known that the promoters haven’t been too happy with those boys lately and it’s been a tough few weeks. Their scores and performances have been a concern, but that’s just the nature of the game when you’ve got riders who aren’t racing to their potential.
“We’ve been considering our options but we don’t like getting rid of riders if we can help it and we’re doing our best to stay patient with the pair of them. They’ve got to see this meeting as a chance to get back on track otherwise maybe we will have to look at making a change.
“But hopefully they’ll make our lives easier by just going out there and scoring some points for the team. We just want to keep encouraging them and hopefully everything will just fall into place.
“Scunthorpe might not be up towards the top of the table, but they always come to Sheffield and give us a bit of a fright. We certainly won’t be resting on our laurels and it’s going to take a good, solid team performance to get us some more league points on the board.”
Boocock added: “After the hard fought, late wins against Somerset and Edinburgh I’d like to think that this week’s meeting will be a little bit less stressful - but no doubt it will go down to the wire again!”
