IF he was to listen to the doctors Chris Schramm would not even be considering a return to speedway, let alone lining up for Sheffield tomorrow.

Tigers’ new signing Schramm, 28, suffered a serious back injury last year and was told in December that a track return was 12 months away.

Now he’s ready for his Tigers debut against Rye House in a Premier League clash which sees Emiliano Sanchez switch to the reserve slot. Schramm said: “My personal trainer said that with a lot of hard work, I could be ready by March so I trained for three months to get fit. It was harder than I ever imagined - but I did it and I was ready to go in March.

“It just shows what you can do and now I can get back on the bike again. I can’t wait to get back racing and can’t wait to get going.

“I haven’t been to Sheffield too many times, but I’m sure I’ll get to grips with it pretty quickly. I’ve had a couple of spins but obviously I’ll need a couple of races to get going.”
