SHEFFIELD launch their Premier Challenge Trophy assault at Ipswich tonight (7.30).
The new competition which groups the six teams that didn’t qualify for the championship play-offs, gives those sides another chance of silverware and the Tigers will hope they can take advantage.
A dismal campaign saw them finish 12th out of 13 teams, but now they will hope to end their season on a more positive note, starting in Suffolk.
“We’ve not had the best of season’s on the track but this tournament gives us a good run of fixtures and an opportunity to give our fans a reason to smile again,” said Sheffield supremo Neil Machin. “We initially planned on running a home meeting but with the short amount of time we would have had to publicise it, and the fact that it was helpful to Ipswich to go there tonight, we decided to run next week.
“Ipswich are a very capable team and could have indeed reached the top six play-offs, so we have our work cut out.”
The remaining fixtures for the competition have also been announced, with Sheffield’s next home meeting taking place on Thursday October 4 against Rye House. - the other team in the group.
Tigers will use the rider replacement facility for the injured Emiliano Sanchez.
