Sheffield Tigers boss Joe Screen is sweating on the fitness of three riders ahead of their Premier League clash with Peterborough at Owlerton on Thursday (7.30).

Talented teenager Josh Bates has back, hand and shoulder injuries sustained in an Elite League meeting for Leicester last week – and both Ty Proctor and Leigh Lanham have leg and back injuries respectively.

Thankfully Lanham was released from hospital in Glasgow with no broken bones after a crash at Ashfield and Proctor aggravated a leg injury sustained last Thursday.

Lanham tweeted: “Pleased to say nothing broken but very sore back. Like to thank all medical staff. Like to thank fans for all messages, much appreciated.”

Said Screen: “After Thursday we had a good team spirit and we were all high on confidence again. We went up to Glasgow with a real buzz and believing we could get at least a point, so the way things turned out was disappointing.

“We had those injuries and things just didn’t go our way again, so it was a frustrating night and we’ve got to try and pick it up.

“Ty damaged his leg on Thursday, and it was a doubt he was going to ride anyway. He decided to give it a go but Glasgow isn’t the easiest of tracks to ride and he was really struggling with it.

“We’re up against it with injuries and it’s really bad luck for us when things were just starting to pick up, but we’ll just have to try and get through it and see what we can do.”
