AMERICAN star Ricky Wells believes he has everything in place to show Sheffield fans what he can do after a fragmented start to the season.
Wells was a summer recruit for the Tigers but a run of postponements has prevented him from finding his best form.
But the USA World Cup star is confident that he can now kick on. He said: “It’s been a pretty slow start because of all the rain-offs we’ve had, I had 12 last month, but I have everything in place now to get going and score some points.
“At the start of the season I was relying on people for new parts and stuff but now I have three brand new bikes built and I know I have really good equipment under me. I have a good team around me, including Sam Ermolenko, and I just want to get on with things now. In a small way, the rain-offs have helped me get everything together.”
Wells also believes that Sheffield have been underrated this year, with many ‘experts’ predicting a poor campaign for the Owlerton men.
He said: “We’ve been underrated in my view, for sure. We got a good draw at Redcar and we’ve kept it pretty close at Workington and Ipswich, which I think opened people’s eyes. Okay we lost by 14 at Ipswich but it doesn’t take much to turn that into a point. A couple of the boys had an off meeting and we still gave them a run, which bodes well.
“I have a pretty busy week next week and we are going to have a hectic summer. We need a run of meetings to get going and to find some consistency and I’m confident that our results will improve the more we ride. There is nothing you can do about the weather, we just need a good run now.”
Fans are reminded there is no meeting at Owlerton tonight due to the stadium being unavailable.
