NEW Tigers signing Damien Koppe is back in the UK preparing for the season - but only after a last gasp scare with his visa.
Koppe has been spending time back in Australia and he was facing an anxious wait for the paperwork to arrive in order for him to take his place in the Tigers side.
But the authorities responded to his plea for help and he is now back and ready to get as many practice sessions in as the weather will allow.
Tigers co-promoter David Hoggart has revealed the full extent of Koppe’s drama ahead of his trip back into Manchester. He said: “It’s been tight for Damien. We spent a fair bit of time going through all the documentation before he went home to make his application, there were no guarantees and Damien allowed a month for everything to turn around.
“That’s about the minimum time really so my heart sank when he mailed me last week to say that the floods had delayed things.
“Credit to the authorities they responded sharpish and it’s all good now he’s back in the UK.
“Hopefully now he can get some laps in before the season starts. He regards this as a massive opportunity to launch his UK career with Sheffield and he’s an important member of the side.
“He will need some time to settle in for sure, along with Albin and young Jake Knight, but we will work closely with them and I’m sure the fans will get right behind them.”
Tigers should have confirmation of their opposition for the opening night of the season at Owlerton on March 28 within the next 48-hours.
