Arthur Sissis has praised his colleagues after seeing them sweep aside Scunthorpe in their League Cup opener.
Sissis made an encouraging debut and didn’t get the points he deserved, but the Owlerton side romped to a 57-35 win.
And he said: “It was a great performance from all the boys and it was a good way to start the season for us.
“I couldn’t believe it when the boys told me Scunthorpe beat us three times at home last year, because we won pretty comfortably in the end.
“It was a great first meeting, everyone looked confident and were scoring points. It’s great to have a team around me where everyone can contribute like that, so things are looking good.
“We’ve got a team that works really well together, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead here at Sheffield.”
Sissis admits it was a tough start for him but he is determined to build on it – starting on Thursday when Redcar visit Owlerton.
He said: “It’s always hard to get the set-up right from the start but now that first meeting is out of the way I can kick on.
“It’s all very much a learning curve in the early stages of the season for me but I’m confident I can build on what I did. I can’t wait for Thursday now.”
Meanwhile Tigers are set to feature in a live Premier League meeting on Sky Sports for the second successive season this May.
They will travel to Scotland to take on title favourites Glasgow, who include brilliant youngster Nick Morris, at the new-look Ashfield Stadium on Tuesday May 12.
It’s a major feather in the cap for the Sheffield Window Centre club who staged a home meeting in front of the cameras last July.
