Simon Stead and Leigh Lanham will carry Sheffield’s hopes into the Premier League Pairs at Somerset next week.

And they’ve been handed a tough test for the July 11 event, as they come up against home club Somerset with Nick Morris and Olly Allen along with Edinburgh’s Australian duo Sam Masters and Max Fricke.

But Stead says the Sheffield pair have what it takes to go to the Oak Tree Arena and get a good result. He said: “Leigh and me have plenty of experience and there is no reason why we can’t go there and do the business. It’s a big meeting and we want to be riding in those, so I’m looking forward to it and I’m sure there will be a big crowd.

“The Somerset track is great, it always provides some good racing and I’m sure this will be no different, we will be looking for a qualification from our group and then anything can happen!”

Start-time for the prestigious event is 7pm, 30 minutes earlier than in previous seasons, at the start of a huge weekend of speedway with the British Grand Prix taking place at Cardiff the following evening.

Tigers roar back into action tomorrow at Owlerton with Rye House the visitors in the Premier League with a new start time of 7.30 – 15 minutes earlier than before.
