British Grand Prix wildcard Craig Cook will be Sheffield’s latest star guest at Berwick tonight.
Cook, who went close to winning the British title ahead of Tai Woffinden in June, will step in for injured skipper Simon Stead for the trip to Shielfield Park.
Cook was in blistering form for his club Edinburgh in their stunning win at Somerset on Tuesday. Tigers co-promoter Damien Bates says the team are looking for a result tonight to keep their play-off push going.
“We’re pleased to have Craig with us for this one, he’s a top rider at this level and I’m confident he will do the job for us,” he said. “Berwick won’t be easy, they’re a strong side around their own track but we fancy our chances of getting something. David Bellego knows the track really well as a former Berwick rider and I’m sure Jason Garrity will give it his all as ever. Our manager, Jack Lee says we need a couple more away wins as well as winning at home to keep the play-off push alive. I agree. We have to look at fixtures like this as one where we can get some points on the board. We can do it, the way these lads have come together after the team changes we were forced to make is very impressive.”
Josh Bates has declared himself ready to race after his crash in Monday’s Elite League meeting for Wolverhampton against Swindon. Bates pulled out of the meeting after landing heavily on his shoulder and there were fears he may have done some ligament damage – but rest has had the desired effect.
