Taylor Poole has won praise from Sheffield Tigers boss Joe Screen as he prepares to move back into the main body of the team in September.
Poole has piled up the points for the Owlerton side in the reserve department, taking extra rides to compensate for the club’s injury crisis.
He continues in the number six spot for tonight’s home meeting with Ipswich as doubts continue over Leigh Lanham and his back injury.
Said Screen: “Taylor has been great for us the last few weeks, and he’s been really important whilst we’ve had these injuries.
“We’re making him work but he can definitely handle it all, and he’s done a really good job for us.
“He took a while to get to grips with Sheffield but he’s certainly dialled in at Owlerton now and he’s been really riding well.
“It’s a shame he probably won’t stay at reserve, but the way he’s riding I’m sure he can keep scoring points in the main body” said Screen.
“For the time being we’ll make the most of the time we’ve got him at reserve, and hopefully he can carry on his good form for the rest of the season.”
Screen admits Ipswich will provide a tough test for his patched-up Tigers tonight.
“They’ve put together a good team again, like they always seem to,” he said.
“Richie Worrall was part of the Great Britain World Cup squad and Rohan Tungate won the Elite League with Poole last year.
“It will be a tough meeting and I’m sure we will see some good racing again, the lads are looking forward to it.”
Screen will use a guest rider to cover for Lanham if he fails a fitness test and the rider replacement facility will cover for Compton.
