Sheffield’s Adam Roynon hopes to be back racing by the end of the month.

The Tigers skipper crashed in last week’s defeat at Somerset and broke his collarbone in two places. He said: “I’ve got a consultation this week and then hopefully I can get back as quickly as possible. The bone is broken in two places and it’s chipped too, so it’s not the simplest of breaks. Some people can have surgery and get back within two weeks, but it’s not quite that easy with this one.

QIt’s an option to have it operated on but I’m not sure what’s best yet. I think I’ll be back by the end of the month, I know there aren’t too many matches after that but that’s the aim. That’ll mean it won’t have a huge dent in my season.”

Roynon also confirmed that, although he won’t be racing, he is to continue in his role of Tigers captain after being asked by club management to try and attend as many meetings he can while he’s injured.

He said: “The guys asked me if I would carry on being captain and obviously I’d love to, so I’m going to make sure I’m at Owlerton helping the boys out.”

Roynon added: “We’ve got it pretty tough at the minute but we’ll try and pull it round as soon as possible.

“I hate being injured but now I can finally go to Owlerton as a fan and have a carvery!”

Tigers are busy booking guests for Thursday’s meeting with Scunthorpe with Simon Stead, Joe Haines, Damien Koppe and Roynon all on the sidelines.
