SHANE Parker has told Tigers chiefs he is desperate to end his British career with some silverware.
Parker will move back to his native Australia after a glittering 20-year career at the end of the season.
And co-promoter David Hoggart admits he’s delighted to see ‘Parks’ sign off in a Sheffield racejacket.
He said: “Shane has been a fabulous servant of British Speedway for such a long time and we are delighted that he will spend his last season at Sheffield.
“He wants to bow out on a high and is excited about our prospects. We have three riders who are all genuinely capable of pushing for the number one spot, Shane, Ricky Ashworth and Josh Auty.
“He is still a high quality performer at Premier League level and it was a major surprise when Somerset decided they couldn’t fit him into their plans this season. We were quick to take up the opportunity to snap him up.”
Tigers fans will have the opportunity to see Parker in their colours for the first time at the club’s pre-season practice session on Thursday week, March 10, at Owlerton.
Riders are expected to be on the track from 4.30pm following the official handing over of the 2011 racejackets to all seven team members.
“It’s always a popular occasion and by making it later in the day people can come straight from work or school,” said Hoggart.
“All the boys are looking forward to getting together just a week before the first meeting against Belle Vue.”
