Screen will help Parker bring curtain down

CHESTERFIELD born Joe Screen has been added to the world class field for Shane Parker’s farewell meeting at Owlerton on Sunday March 18.

Screen, who won the Premier League title with Glasgow last season, has agreed to turn out for Parker who won the hearts of Tigers fans with a stunning season last year.

He’s bringing the curtain down on his career which goes back over 20 years and a massive crowd is expected to pack the Owlerton terraces. Parker has revealed how he and Screen go back a long way to when they were youngsters doing battle on the track.

“I remember battling with Screenie for the World Under-21 Final in 1991, we were both tipped as favourites for that,” Parker recalls. “Screenie had gone out and had a nightmare, and I ended up having a nightmare and neither of us won it that year!

“We’ve grown up as rivals over the years but one thing I can say for sure is the friendship me and Screenie have formed is probably unbreakable.”

Screen has often said he would like to ride for Sheffield before his racing days are over but it seems he will see out his career in Scotland.

He said: “I used to go to Sheffield as a kid and watch the racing, it’s a fantastic track and I’m looking forward to riding in Parks’ meeting.”

The complete line-up for Shane’s big day is World Champion Greg Hancock, Maciej Janowski, Chris Holder, Peter Karlsson, Darcy Ward, Davey Watt, Freddie Lindgren, Scott Nicholls, Tai Woffinden, Rory Schlein, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Kenneth Bjerre, Rene Bach, Joe Screen, Linus Sundstrom and Kevin Wolbert.

Gates open at 3.45 pm for a 5pm start, 20 heats in traditional World Final format, with an ‘after party’ in the Third Bend Bar.
