Adam Roynon hopes his win in the Top Gun Individual can kick-start his season.

The Sheffield racer won the annual meeting for the second time at Owlerton as he came good in the Grand Final after having to win the semi-final to get there, and he admits he had to “dig deep” after missing out on an automatic spot.

Roynon used his experience to win the meeting and says he wants to use the victory as a confidence booster.

He said: “I am happy, you get such a feel good factor from winning and it’s just the boost I needed. Hopefully now I can kick-start my season because it’s been a tough one, but this will hopefully be the start of a good second half.

“I didn’t have it all my own way and that was a good thing, I knew that I had to dig in and the other guys knew I was there to be beaten. It meant I couldn’t get complacent and thankfully I knuckled down.”

After missing months of the season after suffering a head injury the Cumbrian has been playing catch-up since returning to the saddle, but he believes he may now be getting back to peak fitness.

“In the last couple of races I felt really good” said Roynon. “My body fitness is good and now my race fitness is improving, I’m starting to feel sharp. Hopefully now I can take that into my league form and help Sheffield climb the league.”

Tigers are likely to be without Damien Koppe for their meetings with Rye House this week due to a shoulder problem.

Club bosses are working on his replacement for Thursday’s Owlerton clash.
