Ricky targets Roses win at home tonight
RICKY Ashworth can boost his claims for a regular place in Belle Vue's Elite League squad tonight – by putting one over them with Sheffield!
The Tigers skipper leads his side into the Owlerton opener in a confident mood against the Manchester outfit who have added him to their squad under the doubling-up rule.
He will race full-time for Tigers but is keen to do as many top flight meetings as possible with the world famous Aces.
And he admits it's an ironic twist that his first meeting of the season is against the side he has always wanted to ride for.
"It's no secret that I have always wanted to ride for Belle Vue because they are my local club," he said. "And I want to make a go of it in the Elite League so a good display against them would do me no harm.
"Chris Morton (Belle Vue manager) has been very fair and has said I will have every chance to ride for them if I can prove myself and prove to them that I can do a job for the team.
"But obviously Sheffield is my main priority and I will be looking to lead from the front as captain. I'd love to get a double-figure score to start the season, but it's also all about getting a good workout under my belt."
Belle Vue have been hit by an injury to key rider Charlie Gjedde who has damaged his knee in a training crash.
Wolverhampton's new Grand Prix star Tai Woffinden, godson of Sheffield owner Neil Machin, has been called in.
SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Richard Hall, Josh Auty, Josef Franc, Paul Cooper, Arlo Bugeja.
