RICKY Ashworth is determined to win the Premier League Riders’ Championship for a second time later this month.
Ashworth is one of two qualifiers from Sheffield for the showpiece event on Sunday, September 25. The other is, not surprisingly, Shane Parker.
And Ashworth, who won the title two-years ago on his own track, is convinced he can spring a surprise by doing it all over again.
He said: “I’m feeling confident. I see no reason why I can’t win.
“The same applies to Shane although there are obviously a host of star riders so it’s going to be tough and at the end of the day it all boils down to one race, the grand final.
“I remember what it meant to me when I won it, It’s one of the highlights of my career and I would love to do it for a second time.
“I know Shane would love to win as well because it would be a fantastic way for him to bring the curtain down on his career and if I can’t win it then I’d like Shane to.
“I’m sure we will have a fantastic following with Sheffield fans making lots of noise. Sheffield is like the home of the PLRC these days, it always attracts a big crowd and I’m looking forward to it.
“But before then we have some important league meetings to get through and we need to keep on winning to keep up our chances of a top three finish.”
