Ricky racing back after winter gloom
TIGERS skipper Ricky Ashworth is hoping to get back on a bike soon after missing out on more valuable winter action.
Ashworth was forced to sit out the Newport New Year Classic at the weekend due to a stomach bug.
That was a week after he suffered severe mechanical problems in the Christmas Cracker event at Scunthorpe where he had to pull out after three outings.
Now he wants to be back riding once he fully recovers from the illness which struck him on Saturday and forced him into a late decision to pull out of the South Wales event.
Tigers co-promoter David Hoggart has been in touch with Ashworth who has been laid low at his Salford base.
Said Hoggart: "He hasn't had the best holiday period. He had bike problems at Scunthorpe which just couldn't be sorted out and that meant he was forced to withdraw after a promising start.
"Then he was unable to compete at Newport, which is a meeting he really wanted to do, after contracting a violent stomach bug on Saturday. That really laid Ricky low and there was no way he could race.
"I like his attitude. He is impressing me very much. He is more keen than ever before to do well and he is excited by the team we have put together. He's looking forward to working with the riders to bring the best out of them."
