Ricky is devastated by snub
TIGERS ace Ricky Ashworth has admitted he is 'devastated' by his exclusion from the Premier League Riders' Championship at Owlerton later this month.
And the rider is determined to put in a good performance at the Northern Riders' Championship on Thursday to make a point.
Ashworth, the reigning Premier League Riders' Champion, has been ruled out of the defence of his title because he dropped behind Josh Auty in the Sheffield averages. And the Britsh Speedway Promoters' Association have resisted the temptation to name him as a wildcard - instead they filled the last two places with those next in line according to the averages.
Said Ashworth: "When I saw the line-up last week I was devastated. I had been told at the start of the season that whatever happened I'd be in the meeting because I am defending champion. It's incredible that the reigning champion misses out by a fraction of a point and then the organisers don't throw him in as a wildcard.
"Now I want to put in a good display on Thursday because they are putting together a powerful line-up. I'd be delighted to win the meeting and take some silverware just a couple of weeks before the big meeting I have missed out on." Sheffield have pulled together another top class field with Somerset duo Shane Parker and Sam Masters included alongside Edinburgh's Ryan Fisher.
