Ricky has tricky double header
TIGERS skipper Ricky Ashworth insists the new speedway season starts here.
Owlerton fans have enjoyed a feast of racing in the opening fortnight with a host of top Grand Prix stars racing in big open meetings - the Ozchem Classic and Ben Fund Bonanza.
But Ashworth insists the hard work starts now as he helps his team prepare for back-to-back meetings with Edinburgh this week in the Premier Trophy. The first meeting is at Owlerton on Thursday with the return in Scotland the following night - and Ashworth is convinced his side can do the business.
He said: "It's been a cracking start for the fans, but as a team we've only had two challenge matches against Scunthorpe so this is where the season starts properly for us.
"Edinburgh will be a tough proposition, they were worthy league champions last season but I'm sure we can beat them.
"All our boys will be raring to go because of the lack of action, lads like Ritchie Hawkins and Chris Mills who are new to the team will be really up for both meetings."
