NEIL Machin has paid tribute to the Sheffield backroom staff who have kept the club going during his long absence.
Machin has just returned to the UK after almost three months in Australia – a trip he makes most winters.
Club co-promoter David Hoggart has pieced the 2013 Tigers team together with help from key Owlerton personnel.
Said Machin: “I have to say the commitment of the people at Sheffield – David Hoggart, Nigel Hinchliffe and Julie Reading – have all kept the wheels turning whilst I’ve been away.
“There are a lot of admin systems that have to be put in place during the close season and those guys have really shown their professionalism in springing into life and making everything happen over the winter.
“The people of Sheffield need to realise that we’ve broadened our base over the last few seasons and we have some superb professional people in those key positions behind the scenes which obviously will give us some benefits as the season unfolds and we get started.
“We are starting a little later than usual on March 28 against Birmingham. The season ticket deal that’s gone out this year with the £3 voucher has generated some real interest.
“It was something that we discussed at length over the close season with our landlords who have always been proactive in not only supporting us by giving us one of the best venues in Britain but also by assisting us wherever they can to develop speedway in the city of Sheffield.”
