Practice to make perfect for Ricky
RICKY Ashworth will get some valuable laps under his belt in a private practice session on Sunday.
The Sheffield skipper has suffered a damp start to the season after pulling out of his ride at Scunthorpe last Friday with water in the engine.
And with the postponement of last night's home Trophy clash with Scunthorpe on the back of Wednesday's washout at Birmingham, it's been a frustrating time for the team.
Now Ashworth has the chance to link up with his Elite League club Belle Vue on Sunday - even though he hasn't been selected for their opening league meeting of the season against Coventry on Monday.
That meeting will see Tigers youngster Josh Auty line up for the Bees in the same doubling-up deal which Ashworth has with the Manchester club.
Said Ashworth: "It's been really frustrating. The rain is our sport's worst enemy and I hope we manage to get out at Belle Vue on Sunday. I was fairly happy with the meeting against Belle Vue at our place last week but it always takes a few meetings to get into a new season after the winter and we all want to get meetings under our belt.
"I'm determined to make an impression with Belle Vue, I know they have gone with Leigh Lanham instead of me for the first meeting but I will get my chance and when I do I have to do enough to show that I'm worth a place in their side.
"I've said all along that Sheffield is my priority but it's a big season for me and I want to do all I can to make the most of it. The same applies for Josh at Coventry. It's good for him to have the experience of riding with them at such an early stage in his career but, like me,. he's under pressure to score the points to keep his place in their team."
