TIGERS fans have the chance send popular Aussie Shane Parker into retirement with a special event next month.

Parker, who has been a massive hit with Owlerton fans in his only season with the club, is heading home with his family after a glittering 20-year career.

And his fans can send him on his way in style on Thursday, November 3, when Owlerton’s Panorama Room stages a party night including live music and food.

A bumper turnout is expected with fans from throughout the region expected to join in the celebrations after a superb season Parker.

He said: “I’ve had a great time at Sheffield, the fans are good, they’ve made us so welcome and it’s always great to see them at the away tracks supporting the boys.

“My body is telling me it’s time to quit after a great career, I’ve always enjoyed the total commitment and support of my family and it’s now time for me to focus on them, I’m looking forward to spending more time with them, right now they’re my future.

“My farewell meeting on Sunday March 18 next year still has to be rubber stamped by the BSPA but in principle both Newcastle and my former club, Glasgow, have agreed the date so it should just be a formality.

“I really do want everyone to have fun and enjoy the Farewell Party, the Magoos are worth the trip alone and of course I’ll be able to thank everyone for their support.”

Tickets, priced £12, are now on sale from the Owlerton Speedway Office on 0114 285 3141 or from the club shop at next Thursday’s meeting with the USA Tourists.

Sheffield’s National League semi-final clash with Belle Vue was called off last night. Every effort was made to get the meeting on, but heavy rain made it impossible and a new date has to be arranged with the Manchester side.
