SHANE Parker continued his stunning run of form in Sheffield colours but failed to prevent them from crashing to defeat at Newcastle last night.

Parker dropped one point in five outings and was then given a brilliant ovation from Diamonds fans on what was probably his last ever appearance at Brough Park.

He was beaten by Diamonds guest Jason Lyons in the last race which provided some fine racing with Josh Auty also involved.

Parker’s 14-point haul was superb but he didn’t get the support he needed from colleagues, particularly at reserve with Simon Lambert having a rare off-night and guest James Sarjeant struggling.

Lyons was brilliant as cover for fellow Aussie Mark Lemon in the Newcastle side and British youngster Kyle Newman continued his good run of form with 12+3.

The result was a blow to Sheffield’s hopes of claiming a top three spot but with plenty of points to race for in September they can still achieve their goal with Ipswich next up at Owlerton this Thursday.

They will be hoping reserve Ashley Birks can recover from a shoulder injury to take his place in the Tigers side.

NEWCASTLE: Lyons 13, Newman 12+3, Worrall 9, Summers 7+1, Sneddon 5+3 Nedermark 5+2, Haines R/R.

SHEFFIELD Parker 14, Auty 6+1, Ashworth 6+1, Sanchez 6, Skidmore 5, Lambert 1, Sarjeant 1.
