Oz star Auty picking up 'valuable experience'

JOSH Auty insists he's gaining valuable experience by riding as a guest in the Australian Championship.

The Sheffield youngster, who will also double-up with Elite League Coventry, currently stands in ninth spot on 22 points with one round to go.

New Peterborough signing Troy Batchelor is the leader ahead of Poole's Grand Prix star Chris Holder. Auty travelled down under to be a part of the Darren and Sharon Boocock Academy, named after the hugely popular Rotherham-based couple who died in a road accident 18-months ago.

Darren was the son of former rider Nigel who lives in Australia with wife Cynthia – and he was nephew of current Tigers boss Eric Boocock.

"It's a great experience for me and I'm very pleased to be a part of the Australian Championship despite all the politics," said Auty.

"This trip has been a wonderful experience and I can only benefit from the trip. My intention is to go back to England as a better rider and have a great season with Sheffield and Coventry."

Tigers co-boss David Hoggart is backing Auty's winter programme to help him in his development.

He said: "The whole Academy idea came from former rider Marcus Williams and Josh is certainly benefiting from it so far.

"Josh has received a terrific welcome from the Aussies and the fans really have taken to him.

"He's doing a cracking job out there and we know he will come back a better rider. Our thanks go to Marcus and to everyone connected with the Academy for their support."
