TIGERS co-boss David Hoggart says the race for the Premier League Riders’ Championship title this weekend is wide open.

Hoggart, who is the man in charge of the major events in British racing, says the event has all the makings of a classic.

It all takes place at Owlerton Stadium on Sunday with a 5pm start and Sheffield are represented by both Shane Parker and Ricky Ashworth after Josh Auty just missed out in the averages.

Said Hoggart: “In our own team this year we have seen the rivalry develop between Shane Parker, Josh Auty and Ricky Ashworth as they have focused on a place in this year’s competition.

“Sheffield are indeed fortunate to have two representatives and Josh Auty is personally choked that he has missed the cut this year.

“We have the best field available, riders who have all beaten each other around the Premier League circuits and whilst many of us would like to see Shane Parker retire at the very top we may as well paint a target on his racesuit as there are 15 others who will do their best to prevent that.

“It’s a terrific line-up and I know the majority of the crowd will be willing Shane and Ricky on for the title but we are expecting lots of travelling support.

“We’ve been told there are coaches coming from Scotland and again Sheffield Speedway are proud to be hosting this prestigious national event.

“There is no better site than the terraces packed out under lights with the riders battling for the title.”
